April 6 Youth Movement to sue military police for kidnapping
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 20 - 10 - 2011

The April 6 Youth Movement said Thursday that it will file a report with the public prosecutor suing military police for “kidnapping one of its members without giving the member his due rights.”
The movement announced Thursday that military police detained one of its members, Ali al-Halaby, while he was taking part in a campaign to boost voter consciousness and encourage them not to vote for National Democratic Party (NDP) stooges.
Halaby was arrested in Nasr City, north of Cairo, while drawing graffiti related to the campaign, dubbed “the White Circle and the Black Circle," said the movement in a statement Wednesday.
The movement launched the campaign on 17 September to boost political awareness nationwide about corrupt former NDP members that may be running in certain electoral districts.
The military prosecution accused Halaby of maliciously “damaging public property,” sentencing him to seven days in prison pending further investigation.
We have many options for escalation and will not rest until our colleague is released, the statement said, adding that no one should expect April 6's efforts to reveal corruption to stop.
The April 6 Youth Movement was first formed in support of labor protests in 2008, later playing a major role in the revolution that ousted President Hosni Mubarak on 11 February this year. It was among the first groups to call for mass demonstrations.
The relationship between the movement and the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has been tense since the military council accused April 6 of receiving foreign funds to destabilize the country in July.
