A member of the April 6 Youth Movement was arrested Tuesday evening while taking part in a campaign to boost citizens' awareness not to vote for members of the former regime in the next elections, the movement said Wednesday. The movement said on its Facebook page that Ali al-Halaby was arrested in Nasr City, north of Cairo, while writing slogans related to the campaign, dubbed “the White Circle and the Black Circle." Halaby will be questioned by military prosecutors in Nasr City, in a move the movement considers against freedom of expression and the principles of the 25 January revolution, it said. The movement reiterated its rejection of judging civilians in front of military courts. The April 6 Youth Movement launched the White Circle and the Black Circle campaign on 17 September to boost political awareness in constituencies nationwide to uncover corrupt candidates and those who belonged to the now-dissolved National Democratic Party. The campaign aims to inform citizens of the required standards in the members of parliament running elections slated for November. The movement first formed in support of labor protests in 2007, and it played a major role in the revolution that ousted President Hosni Mubarak on 11 February this year. It was among the first groups to call for mass demonstrations. The relationship between the movement and the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has been tense since clashes between demonstrators and the armed forces in July. SCAF members accused the April 6 Youth Movement of receiving foreign funds to destabilize the country. It also accused other national forces of being agents of the US.
