The Supreme State Security Court on Tuesday temporarily released 11 people who were arrested in relation to the attacks on the Israeli and Saudi embassies and the Giza Security Directorate on 9 September. A judicial source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the prosecution will continue to investigate the released detainees, and that it retains the right to put them on trial if investigations demonstrate their involvement in the attacks. On Tuesday evening, the detainees are expected to be transferred from Tora Prison to police stations pending their release. A number of political activists, lawyers, legal centers and relatives of the defendants protested on Tuesday outside the Supreme State Security Prosecution offices, located in the Fifth Complex, Cairo. In early September, dozens of protesters staged protests outside the Israeli Embassy, with some individuals later breaking into the embassy offices. They also clashed with security forces outside the Giza Security Directorate and the nearby Saudi Embassy, where hundreds were injured. The protests occurred following the death of six Egyptian security men on the border with Israel by Israeli gunfire on 18 August. Israel claimed the deaths were accidental, noting that they occurred as they were in pursuit of Palestinian militants who had infiltrated Israel from Egyptian territory to carry out terrorist attacks in southern Israel.
