The General Coordinator for Kefaya Abdel Halim Qandi has criticized the National Association for Change (NAC) for taking interest in the upcoming People's Assembly elections, after the NAC's recent split with founder and former chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei. "What is the NAC going to do after its separation from ElBaradei, especially the association has not determined its objectives," said Qandil in statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm. "I'm afraid it's going to meet the same fate as the National Front for Change led by Aziz Sedqy," a reference to the former Egyptian prime minister's fragmented party. Qandil added that the NAC's interest in the upcoming People's Assembly elections and its attempts to have the opposition run with a unified candidates list will only lead to greater frustration among the public and the NAC members themselves. "The results of the upcoming election have already been rigged by orders from security bodies," Qandil added. "There will be no room for real competition, and so the only appropriate stance for the opposition is to boycott the election." Qandil added that the Muslim Brotherhood is participating in NAC activities out of a desire to win seats in the parliamentary election, which is their main focus. Qandil explained the recent rapprochement between the Brotherhood and ElBaradei by the fact that the Brotherhood is "generally not interested in the presidential election."
