Foreign Minister Nabil al-Araby will fly to Khartoum on Friday for two days, to discuss security issues with his Sudanese counterpart. Top of the agenda are likely to be the situation in Darfur and the deterioration of relations between the north and the south of the country. Concern has been mounting over the situation in southern Sudan ahead of the succession of the south on 9 July. Soldiers from the army of north Sudan took control of the disputed border region of Abyei two weeks ago, prompting fears of another civil war, or at least a prolonged stalemate. Meanwhile, Sudanese news reports said President Omar al-Bashir might pay a visit to the Halayeb region south of Egypt this month to inaugurate a number of development projects. Red Sea Governor Magdy Kubaysi said 75 housing units have been delivered to the Bedouins of the region, and that a number of new roads have been constructed in the area.
