Expedited trial for 25 suspects in Israeli Embassy assault

The military prosecution on Thursday referred 25 suspects out of 146 for expedited military trials in connection with the alleged attempted storming of the Israeli Embassy by protesters on Sunday.
According to the military prosecution, the suspects confessed to provoking the Egyptian army into firing in the air so as to arouse contempt among the people vis-a-vis the armed forces.
Meanwhile, the families of the suspects staged protests against their referral to military courts, demanding their immediate release. They were supported by 13 different human rights organizations.
In a joint statement on Thursday, the organizations condemned the security services and the military police for using tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse peaceful protesters.
Prosecutors charged the protesters with assaulting public servants on duty, destroying public and private property and disrupting traffic in the area surrounding the embassy.
The military prosecution had on Wednesday released 17 juveniles who had participated in the protest, in consideration of their young age.
