An Egyptian citizen has filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court to exclude former members of the disbanded Parliament from running in upcoming elections. The petition is directed to the head of Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, and interim cabinet minister, Essam Sharaf. The plaintiff cited electoral violations during parliamentary elections in November 2010, saying the polls held under the reign of former President Hosni Mubarak were marred by fraud. He added that the disbanded National Democratic Party's sweeping victory in those elections was clearly illegitimate. The incidents of forgery flagged during the parliamentary elections last year were widely decried by opposition groups and civil society institutions. They were largely viewed as one of the contributing factors behind the 25 January revolution, which led to the fall of Mubarak and the disbandment of the Parliament.
