Attorney general mulls moving Mubarak to prison hospital

Egypt's Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud ordered on Thursday the examination of the possibility of transferring toppled president Hosni Mubarak to the hospital of Tora prison.
Eight days ago, the general prosecution remanded Mubarak in custody for 15 days pending investigation over charges of corruption and sanctioning the murder of protesters during the 25 January revolution.
Mubarak is currently confined at a hopsital in Sharm al-Sheikh, as earlier medical reports stated that he was not in a fit medical condition to be moved.
On Thursday, Mahmoud commissioned Egypt's chief medical examiner to inspect the hospital at Tora prison, and decide if it is suitable for hosting the former president.
He also ordered him to check Mubarak's health and determine the possiblity of providing the hospital with all the facilities needed for his treatment.
In addition to Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, who are under investigation for corruption and profiteering, Tora prison now hosts an array of former regime figures facing similar charges. Among them are former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi, former Housing Minister Ahmed al-Maghrabi, and former Organization Secretary of the National Democratic Party Ahmed Ezz, as well as several businessmen close to the ousted regime.
