Christians in Egypt and abroad celebrated Palm Sunday. Churches were decorated with flowers, fronds and wheat ears in preparation for the holy mass. On Palm Sunday, Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem a week before his death and resurrection. The holiday, often referred to as "Passion Sunday," marks the beginning of Holy Week which continues with commemorations of Jesus' crucifixion on Good Friday and celebrations of his resurrection on Easter the following Sunday. According to the Bible, when Jesus entered Jerusalem, crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and covering his path with them. Coptic Church sources have said only mass will be conducted and then people will be asked to leave due to insufficient security measures. The sources said churches will use church scouts to secure entries and exits. Muslim and Coptic youth in Egypt created pages on Facebook to call for the protection of Copts during religious ceremonies. Tens of thousands of Facebook users joined within a few days.
