Protests continued yesterday as workers from five companies and a group of physically challenged individuals performed Friday prayers in front of parliament. Workers from Salemco performed the prayers in front of the Shura Council and were joined by a delegation of workers from Tosson in Alexandria, who are protesting in front of the Ministry of Agriculture. Workers from the Egyptian Telephone company continued their protests in front of the People's Assembly and are demanding that the factory be reopened and that their overdue salaries be paid. Workers from the Nubareya Agricultural Engineering and Mechanization company are also demanding that the company pay their overdue salaries, which have not been dispersed since April 2008. Other agricultural workers condemned what they described as the government's neglect of their demands for permanent contracts and higher salaries. The physically challenged protesters are seeking housing, jobs and permits to open kiosks. Meanwhile, workers from the Information Centers for Local Development from the different governorates are protesting for higher salaries and permanent contracts. Protesters from Salemco are demonstrating against the failure to implement the provisions of the agreement which they agreed upon in previous protests. They are also calling for their overdue salaries to be paid and for additional bonuses. In Naga Hammadi, approximately 3000 workers from the Egypt Aluminum Company ended their three-day strike after Zaki Bassiouni, president of the Holding Company for Engineering Industries, yielded to their demands.
