The South Cairo court will on 12 April examine a lawsuit filed against the National Democratic Party. The case calls for dissolving the party, sequestering its premises, and freezing its assets. Judicial sources said the case was filed by an Egyptian woman named Noura and it argues that the party has worked to destroy Egypt's national unity and societal peace as its leaders were involved in attacks on 25 January revolutionaries. The suit also asserts that party members have been trying to come together again to counter the revolution using thuggery, a tool which, according to the lawsuit, they have been using for years. The fact that the party still exists, is in control of its headquarters, and is still carrying out its activities, will give way to renewed unrest and intimidation of citizens, it is alleged. The suit calls for putting a halt on all of the party's activities until a judicial ruling on the case is issued.
