The Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a press statement on Tuesday announced all Egyptian citizens who fled Libya into Tunisia in recent days and weeks have been successfully evacuated. The confirmation comes as battles between rebel forces and armed brigades loyal to Libya's unpopular leader, Muammar Qaddafi, persist in a number of Libyan cities. In the statement, Assistant Foreign Minister Abdel Hakam said a ministry team remains positioned at the Tunisian-Libyan border, the Djerba airport, and the port of Zarzis in anticipation of the arrival of any Egyptians crossing the border, seeking evacuation. He further said the Foreign Ministry had also successfully evacuated all Egyptians who sought refuge in Algeria. As of Monday evening, according to the assistant foreign minister, 170, 000 Egyptians had been evacuated from the country via planes and ships through Egypt's Salloum border crossing since the onset of the Libyan revolution. In related news, the ministry confirmed the killing of six Egyptians in Libya since protests erupted on 17 February calling for the ouster of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi.
