Government statistics from between January and September 2010 show an increase in rates of inbound tourism, nights spent at hotels, and profits, Al-Masry Al-Youm has learned. However, the average length of stay has decreased. Indicators revealed an increase in tourism rates by 15.8 percent. Income from tourism rose to US$9.24 billion from January to September 2010, compared to US$7.98 billion from the same period in 2009. Statistics also showed that incoming tourism in Egypt has risen by 18.2 per cent. There were 10,566,077 tourists in Egypt from January to September 2010, compared to 8,938,417 tourists during the same period in 2009. Moreover, the number of nights booked in hotels increased by 15.8 per cent. From January to September 2010 the number was 108,683,160 and during the same period in 2009 it was 93,866,610. The average daily length of stay was revealed to have decreased by 0.2 per cent from 2009 however. During the 2009 period, the average length of stay was 10.5 per cent, and in 2010 it was 10.29%. According to statistics, Russia ranked number one among the ten countries sending the largest number of tourists to Egypt from January to September 2010.
