Secretary-General for the Arab League Amr Moussa is currently in communications with Arab foreign ministers to convene an extraordinary meeting, in line with a request by Qatar, with the aim of overcoming differences resulting from the last summit held in Sirt, Libya, on 9 October. The summit saw Arab states disagree over reforms to the Arab League and the secretary-general's initiative to create a neighborhood forum that includes Turkey, Iran and Ethiopia. ِArab diplomatic sources revealed that Qatar has asked the Arab League to hold a meeting for Arab foreign ministers as soon as possible due to its anxiety to preserve the unity of Arab efforts and reach a final accord that takes into account remarks made by Arab states during the last summit. “Qatar's delegation at the league sent a memo containing the request and asked for it to be circulated among other delegations in order to decide on a date for the meeting,” said the diplomatic sources. Based on the league's bylaws, the meeting can be held one month after the request is submitted to the secretary general. Asked about the options available for ministers to deal with objections on the part of some Arab states to the Sirt summit resolutions on joint Arab action, one source declined to tackle the details of the anticipated meeting, saying simply, ”We will confer and try to discuss the issue and finally reach a concensus.” Translated from the Arabic Edition.
