Political activist and former MP Amr Hamzawy has been released from custody pending investigations into accusations he insulted the judiciary via social media. Hamzawy faced questioning after a complaint was filed by a lawyer who works at the law office of Wasat Party deputy, Essam Sultan. The complaint accused Hamzawy of insulting the judiciary in a post he made on Twitter. Hamzawy denied the charges against him. The former MP said he had posted the tweet on his personal account after the verdict in the foreign-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) case was announced. It had no criminal intention, Hamzawy added, stressing he respected and admired Egypt's judiciary. Edited translation from MENA
