The students of Bani Ghani School in Menya have boycotted the school after their nine-year-old colleague Almaz Meghawri was killed by Khaled Abu Takeya, a forty-year-old worker of the school, who hanged her and stole her gold bracelet. The parents refused to send their children to the school unless the administration is changed and the murderer is brought to justice. Nagi Mohamed said: “We have sent numerous complaints to the Education Directorate against the successive muggings that take place, but no one paid attention until the ugly murder happened.”
Asmaa' Gomaa of third grade primary told the prosecutor that Abu Takeya took Almaz away in the morning and she never came back. The school staff said Abu Takeya has been a temporary worker with the school for three years. Hanna Youssef of the Health Unit said he noticed while vaccinating the children that the teachers and the administrators were often absent from the school, as is the case with most schools of the villages in Menya. Former MP Hassan el-Sayed demanded that the murderer be executed and that safety at the school be retained.
