Prosecution Starts Investigating Fayoum Hospital Deaths

Attorney-General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud has referred the notification that was filed by Health Minister Dr. Hatem el-Gabali on the deaths at Fayoum General Hospital to the Public Prosecutor to start the investigation.
The prosecution yesterday summoned the doctors and the nurses to hear their testimonies in the charges leveled at them. It has also ordered the formation of a committee by the Ministry of Health to include doctors that are not from Fayoum in order to determine the number of deaths, their causes and to listen to the testimonies of the families of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the Legal Department of the Ministry of Health started its own investigation. Also the medical team that the Minister of Health sent to Fayoum General Hospital started its assignment of monitoring the doctors' performance and training those working in the intensive care unit until the situation is stabilized and all equipment is fully operational.
It was Al-Masry Al-Youm that had exclusively reported on February 9 that 15 patients have died over 72 hours at Fayoum General Hospital, which prompted the ministry to investigate the matter, discovering 37 more deaths in January.
