Minister of Transport Mohamed Lotfi Mansour has confirmed that the long-term and short-term plans on developing the railways are on schedule. The reinstatement of all workers, 73,000 in number, in the Railway Authority – as stated by the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA), is the largest administrative reform movement in the State.
During his meeting with over 250 workers and representatives of trade unions, Mansour said the current plan for developing the railways faced many challenges, as some people thought that this utility would never be reformed.
Mansour has attributed the deteriorating situation suffered by the railway facility to the losses that were incurred by the Railway Authority over the past years.
Mansour has warned against mistreating the workers in the railway utility, stressing that all problems should be solved friendly. He added that he would firmly deal with the few workers who tarnish the image of the other workers and do harm to the passengers. Al-Masry Al-Youm learnt that the train drivers filed a memo to Mansour during the meeting. The memo mentioned some technical defects in the new tractors. They added that these defects may negatively affect the utility's work, as they may increase the rates of train accidents during the coming period. Mansour promised the workers to consider the matter.
Mahmoud Saber, deputy chairman of Drivers League, said: "We called on the minister to apply the principle of equality in distributing incentives among all workers. We also called on him to develop the Railway Authority's hospital."
