MP Ahmed Abu Baraka has filed a quest for notification to the Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif accusing the Ministry of Finance of violating the Constitution, as it sought the help of a private auditor to audit the accounts of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC). The Constitution stipulates that the Central Auditing Organization (CAO) is the only body that should audit the government bodies' accounts, Abu Baraka said.
The MP called for knowing the reasons behind this "strange" step, adding: "Does the Minister of Finance want to hide something from the CAO or this is because the CAO chief Gawdat al-Malt exposed the government's weak performance during reviewing the final accounts in the last parliamentary session?"
On the other hand, MP Mohammed Al-Gazzar has made a proposal to President Mubarak to form a neutral committee of senior specialists in various fields to assess the government's performance so that the simple people would know where their resources are spent and the ministers who do not do their job well are punished.
