Lionhearted
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 01 - 02 - 2009

When the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP)'s caravan went to Rafah carrying food and medicine for Gazans, the caravan was led by four NDP Secretariat's members, who did not fear the Israeli bombardment.
However, two members were absent: the first was Dr. Zakaria Azmi, chief of the presidential staff, because he was preparing the president's agenda for the Kuwait Summit.
The second was Ahmed Ezz, Secretary of the NDP Organization. No reason was given, but I do not think he was not there because he feared the shelling. Ezz is lionhearted!

It is well known that the NDP Secretariat General includes Safwat Al-Sharif (Secretary), Gamal Mubarak, Mufid Shehab, Ali Eddin Hilal, Azmi and Ezz.
Since the first day of the Israeli war on Gaza, Ezz has completely disappeared as if what is going on in Gaza was not in the neighborhood. Even during clashes between Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and NDP MPs in parliament, we did not hear Ezz's voice!

After the war ended in Gaza and Ezz had been acquitted from the charge of monopolizing rebar in Cairo, Ezz decided to show up not in his capacity as Secretary of the NDP Organization, but as chairman of the Arab Iron and Steel Union.
At the end of the meeting, attended by 16 heads of Arab companies in Cairo, Ezz decided to donate specific quantities of rebar for the reconstruction of Gaza. These quantities will be distributed according to specific percentages that will be agreed upon between the members and their institutions and in coordination with the Union and the bodies that will manage the reconstruction projects. The quantities will be announced later.

Ezz did not miss the opportunity. In his quality as chairman of the Arab Iron and Steel Union, he called on the Arab governments to cancel duties imposed on local production inputs to create fair competition with imported final products. He has also called for canceling any fees on exports, if any, to promote exports.

Ezz did not mention the reasons for his absence from the NDP caravan to Gaza, nor did he explain why he was donating through the Arab Union rather than the NDP.
Caravans of political parties' contributions are nationwide, so why didn't he include rebar among the party's contributions?
Why didn't he make his donation in his capacity as NDP Secretary, which is subjected to the most violent campaign of hatred in political circles?
Why didn't he improve the party's image in the battle of aid among other political parties and "banned" forces? Why didn't he embarrass speculators?

Ezz, like many NDP members, does not care about the party's image among the people. The important thing is his image on the Internet as chairman of the Arab Iron and Steel Union. I am afraid that the federation's members have embarrassed Ezz so that he would donate.
If Ezz took the initiative and donated, why does he refuse to spend on the party? Why doesn't he inspire the party with such creative initiatives? Why has he limited himself to angry mass demonstrations nationwide that accuse the party of collecting donations as bribes on traders, artisans and shop owners?
I had thought Ezz might, like his initiative through the Arab Union, invite the party's businessmen, manufacturers and traders to donate to the Gaza Strip. Why do MB donations go to Gaza on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood while the NDP Secretary's donations go to the same destination on behalf of the Arab Union?
