Clashes broke out between security forces and a number of people in Mansoura (Dakahlia governorate) yesterday when people tried to prevent a bulldozer from demolishing 10 buildings under a decision from Dakahlia Governor Samir Salam. Some 1,000 soldiers surrounded entrances and exits of Taqseem Khatab district, which led to clashes between the two sides. Nine houses were demolished and a woman named Aida Mohamed fainted before the bulldozer and was hospitalized.
People chanted slogans against the government, which they described as unfair. They also chanted slogans against security forces and described the decision as random and unfair.
Dakahlia Governorate Secretary General Al-Husseini Ali said that the buildings that were demolished were subject to the provisions of Law 119 of 2008 and Law 169 of 1976 and that the governor implemented them.
In Damietta, more than 300 families living in slums in Al-Garbi district (Raas Al-Bar) threatened to use force to prevent their expulsion from their homes under a decision to evacuate the area over the coming few days so that it may be developed.
