The avian influenza virus continued its fierce attack on the provinces of Egypt, as hospitals have detained 18 suspected cases in 7 provinces on suspicion of infection. Alexandria and the Red Sea, Suez and Beni Suef have stepped up the raids of household nests of live birds. The Department of Health in Sohag has decided to put the village of Nazlat Said in Tama, which has seen the emergence of the 69th infection, under medical observation for a period of 10 days after the examination report revealed the epidemic of mass deaths of birds since 15 days and the absence of vaccinations and people throwing dead birds in the canal in front of their houses.
In Beni Suef, Governor Ezzat Abdullah was surprised by a. lady with a knife in his face during a veterinary and agriculture campaign trying to confiscate the birds out of the Ghamrawy district. The lady screamed: "Whoever comes near the birds I will knife myself and accuse them of doing it." Mr. El-Ruby, Deputy Chairman of the city, intervened as well as Colonel Ali Alakby, Chief Detective of Supply, and took the knife, and confiscated the birds and closed the shop.
