Three people, including a Copt, have been killed in Assiut and two others seriously injured after being shot by members from "Al-Hawaisha" family at Al-Mote'ah village during their return from a meeting of reconciliation between the two families. The three victims are Abdel Salam Shehata, a lawyer and chairman of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) committee on reconciliation in Assiut, Omar Imam, head of Al-Azhar Institute in Abu Teej, and Gamil Berti Gad, a Copt. The three victims are members in the reconciliation committee. In addition, the committee's two members Mukhtar Shahat and Yasser Saleh have been injured.
The central security forces moved to the accident scene and imposed a tight siege on the village and a curfew. The forces raided the homes of Al-Hawaisha family and arrested 41-yaer-old Mahmoud Abul Dahab, a farmer, with an automatic rifle and a number of women and youth. The forces are searching for the defendants in the farms neighboring the village.
Investigation proved that the perpetrators shot the victims due to a 70-year-old vendetta and hostility between Marie and Al-Hawaisha families.
