Coach of the Egyptian Football National Team, Hassan Shehata, denied submitting his resignation. He said, "So far, I did not submit my resignation; however, my stay depends upon giving back to my players their unfairly slandered reputation. Accusing the players of bringing prostitutes, to celebrate the victory over Italy, is a severe abuse of the coaching group." He added that, such issue would not be over until the players regain their good reputation. President of Egyptian Football Association, Samir Zaher and Mahmoud Taher, Head of the Team's Mission at the South-African city of Johannesburg, were going to hold a press conference to refute the allegations of the South-African newspapers regarding the players' involvement. A representative of International Football Federation (FIFA), a representative of the Organizing Committee and a representative of the South-African Ministry of the Interior were supposed to be present at the conference. On his part, Tahar referred an official memo to Egypt's ambassador in South Africa, Badr al-Din Zayed. The memo asked the Egyptian ambassador to demand that the two South-African newspapers of The Sunday Independent and City Press not only publish an official refutation of what they have published but also provide an official apology to the Egyptian Mission; otherwise the Egyptian Embassy in South Africa initiate judicial proceedings against them. On the other hand, Egyptian Football Association plans to file a lawsuit against Amr Adib, interviewer of ElQahira ElYoum TV Show, broadcasted on Orbit satellite channel. Executive Director of the Egyptian Football Association, Salah Hosni, was assigned to prepare a complete file that contained all the words of Amr against the players so that they could be used against him in the lawsuit. In a related development, Professor Ahmed Fathy Soror, President of Egyptian People's Assembly, has accepted the urgent assembling of the MPs under the request of Commission for Youth and Sports Affairs in People's Assembly, though parliamentary sessions for the current round have been adjourned. The aim of this urgent meeting was to discuss the reasons behind the loss of the National Team in the Confederations Cup, and to see how far what has been published regarding the players' involvement with prostitutes was true or not.
