Investments to the Tune of LE10 Billion in Private Sector in Sanitation Projects and Will Start with the Plants in Alexandria and 6t October
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 02 - 06 - 2009

The Ministry of Housing started preparing a large number of projects for the sewage system to go into partnership with the private sector, (PPP) with investments to the tune of LE10 billion. This is the first step for the completion of the sanitary drainage project, which requires about LE100 billion.  One of the companies to implement this system and out sourced by the Ministry; is the Spanish Egyptian Coalition, they will establish the first stations in the city of New Cairo.
Mohammed Al-Alfi, the first assistant to the Minister of Housing for International Cooperation, executive director of the organizing body of potable water, told Al-Masry Al-Youm there is a plan for the Ministry to complete the implementation of sanitation plants with participation of the private sector during the next stage, pointing out that the implementation will be with the financing of private sector companies of the project and that the Ministry will deliver the service to the citizens with the accepted taxes.

Al-Alfi added: "The two biggest plants will be put up for implementation during the next stage through the private sector, namely, the sanitary drainage station in the 6th of October with 300 thousand cubic meters per day, and West Alexandria treatment plant for the development of the treatment from primary to secondary stages."
Al-Alfi assured that the Ministry has developed a plan to raise a large number of vast projects, especially the appealing ones, and this is a plan aimed at alleviating the 'burden' off the government to implement such projects. He added that the establishment of a sewage plant is equivalent to 4 times what is needed at the water plant construction.
He pointed out at the same time that the Ministry has decided not to put the Waterworks System into the PPP, so that the proposal on the sewerage treatment plants is restricted to all parts of the country, which requires about 100 billion pounds for delivery to all parts of the Republic.
On a related level, the Ministry is preparing to sign a contract for establishment of the first station of the sanitation system, as a private sector participator in the next few days.  This will begin at the New Cairo station which will take place in four phases, with a million cubic meters a day, after the selection of the lowest rate of implementation by the Spanish Egyptian Alliance.
