Brussels - A man has been shot and killed after he attacked two soldiers with a knife in Brussels, according to Belgian prosecutors. The 30-year-old man, who authorities said was not known for any terrorist activities, was taken to hospital where he is understood to have died. Soldiers fired back after the man attacked them with a weapon, which some eyewitnesses have claimed was a machete. Belgium's federal prosecutors said they are treating the incident as an attempted terrorist murder. A spokeswoman said the man shouted ‘Allahu Akbar' twice during the attack. A spokeswoman for the prosecution service said: ‘With the identity that we currently have it is a 30-year-old man who is not known for terrorist activities.' Two soldiers suffered minor injuries in the attack. One suffered a facial injury and the other sustained a hand injury. Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel tweeted: ‘All our support is with our soldiers. Our security services remain on alert. We are following the situation closely'. Images of the scene show police and paramedics working in an area that had been cordoned off. Another photo shows a person believed to be the suspect lying on the ground. In a statement, the federal police said: ‘The situation is under control.'
