Cairo – Qatar will try to boost ties with Iran in the coming period in response to several countries' decision to cut off ties with Doha, an expert in Islamist movements' affairs said. Speaking to Egypt's Youm7 news website on Wednesday, Dr. Gamal El-Menshawy said Doha will take this move as part of its bids to exert pressure on the boycotting countries. The Iranian interference in the domestic affairs of Qatar will make the situation much worse, El-Menshawy added. Qatar had been a key supporter of former Egyptian Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and has provided financial and logistical support for many Brotherhood leaders who escaped Egypt following Morsi's ouster on 3 July 2013. On Monday, June 5, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt have broken diplomatic ties with Qatar and cut off air, sea and land access to the country over Doha's support for terrorist groups.
