Cairo – Egypt's Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark, is to visit Al-Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb on Monday to greet him on Eid al-Fitr. Eid al-Fitr (festival of breaking of the fast) is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. The religious Eid falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal, when Muslims stop fasting and can eat and drink during the daytime. This year, Eid al-Fitr is scheduled to fall on June 25 or 26. The Pope, along with a delegation from the church, will meet with El-Tayeb at the headquarters of Al-Azhar Sheikhdom in the Egyptian capital Cairo. This visit is regularly paid each year to evidence the depth of strong relations between the church and Al-Azhar, Egypt's top Islamic authority.
