New York (UN) - Egypt, in its capacity as head of the UNSC Counter-Terrorism Committee will convene a joint meeting grouping also two UNSC committees on Libya and Daesh terrorist group at the UNSC in New York on June 27. The move comes upon directives of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and after a recent terrorist attack that occurred in Minya governorate, Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Amr Abul Atta said in statements on Friday 02/06/2017. The meeting, to be co-chaired by Egypt and the heads of the two other UNSC committees on Libya and Daesh, will focus on the current terrorist threats in Libya, the challenges facing the Libyan government in combating terrorism and the aid offered by the UN and international community to fight terrorism, Abul Atta added. Egypt urged that the meeting be open so that all UN member states and agencies could attend and be briefed on the efforts exerted to uproot terrorism and bring about stability in Libya, at a time when some countries are supplying terrorist groups with funds and weapons, a state of affairs which worsen conditions in Libya and threaten the security of neighboring countries, he noted.
