London - Queen Elizabeth II of Britain met Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese at Windsor Castle in London, the Coptic Orthodox Church said in a statement on Wednesday. On his part, British Ambassador in Cairo, John Casson, called it a "historic" meeting. Casson said, in a tweet, that both Queen Elizabeth and the Pope have long experience and wisdom with regard to coexistence in an ever-changing world. Pope Tawadros II headed for the UK from Milan after a short visit to Italy, and will spend several days in the UK, according to the Coptic Orthodox Church.
