Cairo - Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his British counterpart Boris Johnson, as Middle East News Agency reported. The conversation dealt with the developments in Libya and Syria, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Ahmed Abu Zeid. Johnson told Shoukry that his country is keen on maintaining coordination with Cairo for its major role in the Arab region, said Abu Zeid. The British top diplomat kept his Egyptian counterpart posted on the outcome of talks and contacts he had during his recent visit to Libya, added the spokesperson. Shoukry offered an assessment of the developments in the Libyan file including the result of a meeting that recently brought together Libyan Military Commander, Khalifa Haftar, and Libyan Presidential Council Chairman, Fayez al-Sarraj in Abu Dhabi. Foreign Minister Shoukry renewed Egypt's commitment to continue its efforts at the regional and international levels in order to resolve the current crisis in Libya, maintain the territorial integrity of the country and meet the aspirations of its people, said the spokesperson. As for the developments of the crisis in Syria, Shoukry reviewed with Johnson a recent agreement to establish de-escalation zones in Syria, reiterating Cairo's support for efforts that are meant to cement a ceasefire in Syria and to improve the humanitarian conditions there. Shoukry stressed Egypt's support for maintaining the unity and independence of Syria and ending the suffering of the Syrian people, said the spokesperson.
