Abuja - A high-rank official in Nigerian government disclosed taht terrorists operating within the country are working in alliance with the militant Islamic group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Ameh Comrade Godwin reporteD for The Nigeria 'Daily Post'. Nigerian Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo called on other countries affected by activities of the terrorists to put hands on deck in tackling the evil collaborations. According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, the Vice-President spoke while receiving the Bangladeshi Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Abu Belal Muhammad, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said networking among terrorists groups had increased the need for countries to close ranks to counter the threats posed by their activities. Boko Haram, referred to by themselves as al-Wilāyat al-Islāmiyya Gharb Afrīqiyyah (Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP) is an Islamic extremist group based in northeastern Nigeria, also active in Chad, Niger and northern Cameroon. The group was led by Abubakar Shekau until August 2016, when he was succeeded by Abu Musab al-Barnawi. The group had alleged links to al-Qaeda, but in March 2015, it announced its allegiance to ISIS. Since the current insurgency started in 2009, it has killed 20,000 and displaced 2.3 million from their homes and was ranked as the world's deadliest terror group by the Global Terrorism Index in 2015.
