Amman - Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al Jaafari on Monday on the sidelines of their participation in the preparatory meetings for the Arab Summit in Jordan's resort of Dead Sea. The meeting took up means of enhancing joint ties for the best interests of the Egyptian and Iraqi peoples as well as the latest developments in issues of common interest, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zayed in a statement on Monday 27/3/2017. The two sides also probed efforts exerted to combat terrorism and extremism phenomenon. Al Jaafari reviewed his vision on challenges facing the region and crises which threaten its stability and peoples. He further stressed the depth of relations binding the two nations, noting that the two countries share identical viewpoints towards issues of common interest. Al Jaafari posted Shoukry about the latest political and security developments in Iraq, hailing the efforts of the Iraqi armed forces and the sacrifices of the Iraqi people to overcome terrorism and liberate cities from the control of Daesh. Shoukry affirmed that Egypt looks forward to bolstering ties with Iraq and promoting joint cooperation in various fields. He stressed Egypt's keenness on preserving the unity and safety of Iraq amid challenges facing it, Abu Zayed underlined. He invited al Jaafari to visit Egypt so as to follow up cooperation programs and resume coordination on the latest developments at the regional and international levels.
