Cairo, (TAP) - Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui affirmed Tunisia's continued support for Egypt in its fight against terrorism, at his meeting Monday in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi. A Foreign Ministry statement said Khemaies Jhinaoui called for the need to unify efforts and intensify co-operation and coordination to combat terrorism that threatens the stability and security of the world and particularly Arab countries. Jhinaoui chairs the 4th meeting of Foreign Ministers of member countries of the League of Arab States and the European Union to be held on Tuesday, December 20 in Cairo, in his capacity as chairman of the Council of Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs. Jhinaoui conveyed a message from President Beji Caïd Essebsi to President al-Sissi on ways to promote bilateral relations in various fields and strengthen consultations and coordination on Arab, regional and international issues of common interest. The Egyptian President praised the privileged level of Tunisian-Egyptian relations, stressing his country's readiness to work to further promote them so as to meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples, said the same source. He also commended the coordination between the two countries on all regional and international issues as well as Tunisia's positions supporting the just Arab causes. The two sides discussed the next bilateral events, particularly the 16th session of the Tunisian-Egyptian High Joint Commission to be held in Cairo in 2017 and the political consultation committee at the level of foreign ministers of the two countries. According to the Foreign Ministry statement, the meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss Arab issues of common interest: the Palestinian cause, the situation in Syria and Yemen. The development of the situation in Libya and the importance of the role of neighboring countries in encouraging dialogue between the different Libyan protagonists to reach a political solution to the crisis were also at the centre of the meeting. The Minister of Foreign Affairs offered Tunisia's condolences to families of the victims of the two recent terrorist attacks in Egypt.
