The ABC news channel has confirmed Australian Islamic State terrorist Neil Prakash handed himself over to Turkish authorities several weeks ago; Neil Prakash, known as Abu Khaled al-Cambodi, is an Australian man and senior member in the Islamic State (also known as Daesh, ISIS and ISIL). Prakash entered Syria in 2013 and has been the public face of a number of Islamic State's propaganda videos. The senior IS recruiter and terror plot instigator from Melbourne was arrested several weeks ago after Australian authorities contacted Turkey saying he wanted to enter the country, a Turkish official said. The Melbourne extremist had been a key player in inspiring violent terrorism in Australia and was reportedly involved in foiled terror plots at Anzac Day commemorations in 2015 and 2016. He grew up in Melbourne and converted to Islam in 2012. He attended the now closed al-Furqan Islamic Centre. In August 2015 the Australian Federal Police issued a first instance warrant for Prakash's arrest, which is still valid. In a statement, the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Counter-Terrorism, Michael Keenan, said: "As a matter of longstanding practice, the Australian Government does not comment on matters of intelligence or law enforcement operations."
