Egypt's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack on a restaurant in a diplomatic zone in Bangladesh's Dhaka that claimed the lives of 20 hostages. Security forces managed to free 13 hostages and killed six attackers and arrested one armed man. Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a fast recovery for the injured. Ten of 26 people who were wounded when the militants opened fire were in critical condition، and six were on life support، according to hospital staff. Abu Zeid assured that the "Egyptian government and its people stand by Bangladesh in the fight against terrorism." He also called upon the international community to unite in the fight against terrorism and to work to stem the financing that enables it.
