The Guardian Egypt: eight police killed in attack on outskirts of Cairo Gunmen shot dead eight plainclothes Egyptian policemen in the Helwan district south of Cairo, the interior ministry said on Sunday. The policemen were travelling in a minivan when the assailants in a pickup truck blocked their path and sprayed the vehicle with automatic rifle fire, the ministry said. Jihadists, including Islamic State group militants, have killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers in attacks, mostly in the Sinai Peninsula and also in and around Cairo. Dr Morsi was not among the six convicts, who include two employees for the Qatari television network al-Jazeera. Al-Jazeera identified its two employees sentenced to death as Ibrahim Hilal, an Egyptian national working as news editor, and Alaa Sablan, a Jordanian news producer.
