The Governor of Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Tarek Amer asked on Sunday Attorney General to open an investigation into the revaluation of foreign currencies caused by some foreign exchange bureaus, Al-Bawaba News reported. Sources from Attorney General's office revealed that the accused foreign exchange bureaus are currently seized by the government committee which was assigned to monitor the companies affiliated to the banned Muslim Brotherhood organization. In March, CBE had reduced the value of the Egyptian pound registering EGP 8.88 per dollar on the official market, while some foreign exchange bureaus did not adhere to the new price raising the dollar exchange to EGP 10.05. Other exchange bureaus restrained selling dollar causing an unexpected escalation for foreign currency exchange rates in the market.
