Tens of police sergeants in Egypt's Sharqeya province said they wholly back their seven colleagues arrested Saturday, evening over a TV interview. The sergeants as well as members of the arrestees' families flocked to the Sharqeya security directorate in solidarity with the arrestees. Seven police sergeants were arrested Saturday ahead of a TV interview where they would supposedly discuss the problems facing them. A crisis has recently erupted in Egypt over a string of bloody attacks against civilians, most notably the killing of a tuk-tuk driver in Cairo's Darb Ahmar neighborhood, triggering heavy protests against the police and the government. Earlier in Feb., two police sergeants physically assaulted two doctors in a Cairo educational hospital, triggering a Doctors Syndicate unusual general assembly and a partial strike on Feb. 20. Head of the police sergeants' coalition, Mansour Abu Gabal, who staged a sit-in the same province months ago, was among the arrestees, sources said. The arrestees are currently questioned by the State Security Higher Prosecution, the sources added. On Saturday, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi discussed with his interior minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar in Sahrm El-Sheikh means to get out of the crisis and create a better police image in streets, according to media outlets.
