Egyptian Minister of Irrigation, Hossam Moghazy announced Saturday, that Egypt will prepare a technical study about the gates of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), upon the information presented by Ethiopia during the last meeting held in Addis Ababa between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan, Aswat Masriya reported Sunday. Moghazy stated that Egypt's situation will be determined based on the technical study presented by Ethiopia about the number of the dam's gates, which ensure the continuation of flow of Nile water to downstream countries, Egypt and Sudan, to be submitted at the next six-party meeting. The minister revealed that Ethiopia hid information about the design and number of gates. Ethiopia has rejected the Egyptian official request to increase the number of gates in the Grand GERD from two gates to four, to ensure the flow of water to Egypt and Sudan. Ato Bizuneh Tolcha, the Public Relations Director at the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity, stressed that Addis Ababa has conducted extensive studies on the project before starting it and will not re-design the dam to increase the gates.
