President of Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU), Marzouq Al Ghanim said in a statement to reporters that union continues its efforts to reinstate Egypt as a member of AIPU, Al Bawaba News reported Friday. Al Ghanim explained that the union seeks the return of Egypt as a member of AIPU in order for Egypt to regain its leading role in Middle East and world. He pointed out that the union is currently waiting for the election of the head of the Egyptian parliament on Sunday, in order to submit an application for reinstating Egypt and its parliament as a member in AIPU. He stressed that such a move will enable Egypt to resume its natural and important role in the Arab and international parliamentary systems. AIPU's president revealed that he discussed this subject with the representatives of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), during a meeting with them a few days ago in Geneva.
