An Afghan-American aid worker was shot and killed in Kabul. Lisa Akbari, a dual America-Afghan citizen was shot by a Mullah who lived in her apartment complex as she came out of the building's gym at 8pm on Sunday. She had lived in Afghanistan for three years. Akbari is reported to have worked for the U.S. military from 2009 to 2013 in a supporting role. She then became an aid worker, first with World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization, then with other NGOs in Afghanistan including women's shelters. The Mullah who killed her is believed to have had ties to terrorist groups, according to Fraidoon Obaidi, a Kabul police official, who did not specify which groups. On Monday, a motorcycle suicide bomb killed six U.S. soldiers in Bagram, Parwan province, Afghanistan, close to the American Bagram military base. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest condemned the "cowardly attack" saying the United States "will continue to work together to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan." The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
