Head of the Tourism Promotion Authority, Samy Mahmoud revealed Monday in a statement to Youm7 News that 9.5 million tourists visited Egypt in 2015, a drop of 10% compared to 2014. Mahmoud pointed out that the total revenue amounted to $ 6.5 billion, a drop of 20% from the previous year. He explained that the reason for that drop is the Russian civilian plane crash which occurred in Sinai, during October. He stressed that the decision of a number of European countries to suspend flights to Sinai, has negatively affected the tourism industry.
