Seven people were killed when a suicide bomber targeted a center for displaced people in northern Nigeria on Sunday, local officials said. Another seven were injured in the attack in Maiduguri, according to a spokesman of a local vigilante group. "Eight persons including the bomber died while seven others were injured in Muna, where some displaced persons from Gamboru Ngala... are sheltered," Baba Shehu told Anadolu Agency by phone. "The attack was carried out by a lone suicide bomber who was stopped outside as he tried to sneak into the building," he added. A security official also confirmed the blast but did not give details of the casualties. The army is yet to comment on the attack. Although no group claimed immediate responsibility, Boko Haram militants have waged a violent insurgency in the country's northeast since 2009 are known to hit soft targets with suicide bombings. Similar attacks claimed close to the 50 lives in Yola, the capital of northeast Adamawa state, and northwestern Kano last week. President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to defeat the group by December - a target many analysts say is optimistic.
