Egypt's armed forces announced Tuesday the end of the first phase of Martyr's Right operation that was launched on September 7 against terrorist groups in North Sinai after achieving its main objectives. The army said that it succeeded in destroying the terrorist outposts and centers that militants used in attacking army and police personnel in North Sinai. It added that the army and police personnel destroyed most of vehicles and motorcycles used by terrorists, pointing out that the army succeeded in controlling North Sinai's Rafah, Sheikh Zuweid and Arish cities roads and surrounding villages. The army pointed out that it defused a number of explosive devices, as well as destroying tunnels used by terrorist groups in their criminal operations. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against terrorist groups in Sinai after they claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel.
