Egypt's Ministry of Health announced Wednesday the release of two new hepatitis C drugs, Harvoni and Kiurevo, at the hepatitis treatment centers by next November at a price of EGP 3.050, said Tarek Salman, Assistant Health Minister for the Pharmacology Sector. The ministry's decision to add the new drugs to the list of medications to treat chronic hepatitis C is a huge step in the treatment protocols, Salman added. According to the health ministry, there are 2.3 million hepatitis C patients in Egypt, marking the highest rate of hepatitis C infection in the world as 14.7 percent of the population as between ages 15-49 have tested positive for the virus.
