UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned a wave of deadly terrorist attacks that hit Turkey on Monday. A total of six Turkish security forces died in attacks staged in Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province and in its largest city, Istanbul. "[Ban] condemns today's series of terrorist attacks including on the security forces, both in Istanbul and in the south-east provinces, as well as on the U.S. consulate in Istanbul," read a statement issued by his spokesman. Police identified the consulate attacker as a member of the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C). The attack on the consulate in the northern Sariyer district of Istanbul, in which no casualties have been reported, came after another attack on a police station in Istanbul early Monday that killed one police officer and wounded at least 11 people, including four other police officers. In Sirnak province, four policemen were killed and another officer was injured in a roadside bomb attack. One soldier was also killed in an attack carried out by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants on a military helicopter in Beytussebap district. "[Ban] expresses his deepest sympathies with the victims of today's acts, as well as with the government and people of Turkey", the UN statement said.
