Affiliated-Islamic State (IS) jihadist group internet websites announced that Wilayat Sinai terrorist group is preparing to launch terrorist attacks on security checkpoints and army personnel in Sinai during Eid al-Adha, al-Bawaba News reported. IS said that 500 militants will launch a large-scale attack on the Egyptian army personnel and headquarters after the group studied the reasons that led to its failure to seize control over North Sinai's Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid cities. The group claimed that a number of militants entered Sinai by land and sea, pointing out that there are difficulties to send arms and ammunition to Sinai. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it had claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel. In 2014, the group announced its allegiance to Islamic State (IS).
