Egyptian Navy will celebrate Friday the arrival of the new FREMM frigate to Alexandria as well as raising the Egyptian flag on it, Youm7 News reported. The frigate arrived to Alexandria's Ras Al-Tin naval base on Thursday after it was handed to Egypt's Minister of Defense, Sedki Sobhi during a ceremony in June at a marine base in France's Lorient city. FREMM will participate in the opening ceremony of the new Suez Canal, which is scheduled to be held on August 6. On February, Egypt signed with France a $5.7 billion deal to receive a naval frigate, 24 Rafale fighter jets and missiles. FREMM is a multipurpose anti-aircraft warfare, anti-ballistic missile and surface attack frigate, which includes a helicopter landing pad (helipad) and a surface-to-air missiles.
