Security sources said militants of Islamic State (IS)-linked Wilayat Sinai have attacked a security checkpoint in southern Sheikh Zuwaid, North Sinai, killing five and wounding seven, Al Bawaba News reported Saturday. Bloody clashes are currently going on between the military forces and the assailants, the sources added, indicating the clashes prevented ambulances from carrying the victims to hospitals. Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, July 2013, a string of deadly attacks occurred in the Sinai Peninsula, leaving thousands of deaths and injuries.
